About Owens Insight

Owens Insight was formed in 2010 by Nick Owens, initially as a general business consultancy, before focussing on home retrofit, home energy plans and renewable energy advice.

Nick has over 7 years’ experience in advising on home renewables and retrofit and over 30 years general business consulting experience with Ernst & Young , PwC and Owens Insight.

Nick has an MSc in architecture and sustainability, plus additional qualifications and experience in ‘carbon lite’ retrofit from the Association of Environmentally Conscious Building, and a diploma in Housing Retrofit and Risk Management from the Retrofit Academy.

Retrofit Experience

In 2020-21 Nick worked on a ‘deep retrofit’ of his own house, reducing its heating demand by 87% and improving its air quality by installing a mechanical ventilation and heat recovery system.

Nick is also Chairman of HKD Energy, a community benefit society in the Hassocks, Ditchling and Hurstpierpoint area of West Sussex, that seeks to promote renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency in the locality. HKD Energy recently helped Adastra Hall in Hassocks fund the acquisition of solar panels and battery storage.

Additionally, he is a director of OVESCO Limited and of OVESCO Sunny Solar Schools, which are similar community-owned companies working in the Lewes area of East Sussex.
